GKTW-DE 2013

Give Kids The World – 2013 Event!

November 1, 2013 – The Event Has Started! – Friday Night!

There is a yummy Gelato social for all the out-of-towners to relax and meet with the in-state people and just “Hang Out”.

The Newark Senior Center provided the room, Cafe Gelato has provided the awesome Gelato, and the Delaware Military Academy provided the muscle.

Trivia Games & Raffles made the First Night one to remember.

November 2, 2013 – The Big Event – Saturday!

Whew, after all of the planning, it was now time to get everything into the room & set-up.

Most of the items were stored at Denise’s paren’ts, about 5 miles away.  Everything was all boxed up, ready to go, and quickly loaded into several vehicles for the short ride over to the Newark Senior Center.

About 200 items in Live, Silent, and Raffle Auction areas were all quickly laid out, color-coded tags matching color-coded tablecloths to make it easy.  Again, the abundance of volunteers made the unload and set-up a BREEZE.

About 100 guests arrived, all very hungry, and all very well served by Cafe Gelato again, this time for a 3-course lunch buffet.  No one left hungry!

The Live Auction commenced immediately, and due to Ben Twilley’s expertise, most of the items exceeded their retail value by a wide margin.  Those 24 items made nearly $3,000 for Give Kids The World!

The DIS Unplugged  Podcast Team was also there, meeting up with old friends and making new ones.  They also provided entertainment by recording a Live Podcast from the event, with their usual flair & local flavors.

Then, Pete Werner surprised us all by raffling off a 6 day / 5 night Disney Vacation, which gave Give Kids the World almost $2,000.

The Silent Auction and Raffles, when completed, brought another $2,800 to the total.

Saturday Night “Post Party Party”

Thanks to Gillian “ShesAPirate”, many of us retired not to our rooms that evening, but to a local brewery (The Ironhill Brewery, to be exact).  We all had a great time, unwinding & just plain socializing.
The photos speak louder than words.  Thank You, Gillian!

Sunday Morning Yard Sale & “Until Next Year”

After a long night’s sleep, (3-4 hours), we reconvened at Klondike Kates for a Yard Sale for Charity.
Once again, the Delaware Military Academy proved Extremely Useful in forming a human chain to move the dozens of boxes up from the road to the second floor in minutes flat!

The breakfast food & drink mixed well with the conversation and browsing, and Give Kids The World gained another $415 from that event!

The Final Words

The final total was almost $9,000.  Then Denise & James added an individual contribution to make it an even $9,000.

In addition to the event sub-totals, guest & corporate donations added almost $900 to the register.

The final accounting was as follows:
